The "Firefighter Combat Challenge," a traveling national event, is scheduled at the Everett marina Friday and Saturday.
Firefighters from Everett and around Snohomish County plan to compete.
"This is the premier firefighter competition in North America," said Eric Studerus, an Everett firefighter and paramedic.
The competition includes an obstacle course involving running, climbing, hoisting and chopping. Some call it the "toughest two minutes in sports," he said.
A children's obstacle course also is planned.
"They get to put on a little firefighter jacket and a helmet and do a kid-sized version of the same thing," Studerus said. "The whole thing is totally free."
The events begin about 2 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday at 1205 Craftsman Way. There will be antique and modern fire vehicles on display, including the department's new heavy-rescue rig. There also will be bouncy houses, including one shaped like a fire station, and a trailer with a fake smoke machine where people and kids can practice escaping from a fire.
