An Absolut lack of humor

A double gin and hair tonic, please: Lawyers for Absolut Vodka have sent a cease-and-desist letter to the owner of Everett's Absolut Hair salon, citing trademark infringement and ordering Jessee Skittrall to change the name of his salon by Jan. 1. Skittrall says the change will be costly and he doesn't think anyone is confused by the name.

We sympathize. We got the same type of nasty letter when we tried to market our line of Supercuts Gin.

"Toe to toe with the Roosskies": The U.S. Air Force, relying on modifications and overhauls, has kept the venerable Boeing-built B-52 bombers flying for decades. The existing 76 planes were built between 1960 and 1962 and could fly for another three decades. Despite the overhauls, some vintage equipment remains on some planes, specifically vacuum tubes.

Yes, vacuum tubes, like the ones your father would replace in the back of the Magnavox. Which means that our national security now rests on the last remaining tube tester at the Oklahoma City Radio Shack.

Don't know much about history: On this day in 1932, the British Broadcasting Corp., conducted the first experimental television broadcast.

The resolution was poor, but if you squinted you could make out Benny Hill being chased by buxom women in bikinis to "Yakety Sax."
