A major repaving of part of 172nd Street NE - Highway 531 - begins Sunday night and will continue for about a month.
Crews will work nights to grind, repair and pave the roadway from east of 43rd Avenue NE to just west of Highway 9. At times the road will be entirely closed, at times crews will alternate along the route.
Because the roadway is narrow, the contractor plans to close sections of Highway 531 and detour traffic around the work zone. The detour routes will be marked with signs, and drivers also can find detour route maps on the state's project page. On some wider sections of the road, only a single lane closure with flaggers will be needed.
Sunday through Thursday nights this coming week, both lanes of the roadway will be closed each night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. between 59th and 67th streets, and other nights between 67th and 73rd streets.
The work is weather dependent and the schedule may change due to rain. For weekly updates and changes to the schedule, visit the state's construction update website .
Also, south of Monroe, Highway 522 from Echo Lake Road to Main Street will close from just before midnight Saturday night to 8 a.m. Sunday.
This will allow crews to continue launching huge girders across the Snohomish River as part of the four-lane widening project.
A detour will be in place.
