A 22-year-old woman was in the apartment at the time, Snohomish County sheriff's Lt. Kathi Lang said. The woman was not hurt. She was able to send her husband a text message that told him to call police.
"Her ability to remain calm and have the presence of mind to text her husband to call the police was instrumental in this incident being resolved without injury," Lang said. "The suspect was in the apartment for about 30 minutes as her husband did not immediately see the text message."
A deputy originally had talked to the man about 11 a.m. in the 15100 block of Highway 99. While the deputy was checking the man's name for warrants, the man ran away into a nearby apartment complex, Lang said. The 35-year-old Snohomish County man had warrants for escaping community custody and for failing to register as a sex offender.
He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on the warrants and for investigation of burglary for forcing his way into the apartment.
