KENT — The mayor of Kent says the operator of a chain of group homes for recovering addicts is breaking the law by allowing sex offenders to live there.
KOMO-TV reports 38 of the 150 recovering addicts who live in the “clean and sober homes” are convicted sex offenders.
Eddie Weber, who manages 13 of the homes, says he’s dedicated his life to helping people get back on their feet. He says everyone needs a place to live and he feels the city is trying to push his organization out.
Mayor Suzette Cook says city law prohibits sex offender group homes in neighborhoods or within 1,000 feet of schools, parks, day cares or churches.
She says she felt deceived because the homes were presented as places for recovering addicts but are really housing groups of sex offenders.
