Head to the fair in Monroe or catch a show

Fair for all: The Evergreen State Fair is full-speed ahead today. It’s Race Day and drivers from all over will compete at Evergreen Speedway. To add to the festivities (and traffic), Monroe’s Fair Days Parade begins at 11 a.m. in downtown. Street dancing and food vendors will open for business at 9 a.m. Go to www.choosemonroe.com.

Shred sked: Skaters of all ages can take part in Mill Creek’s free “Board Bash” from noon to 3 p.m. today at Mill Creek Sports Park, 13903 North Creek Drive. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the all-important medical release form must be signed. Go to www.cityof millcreek.com.

Bare necessities: The Ludus Youth Theatre Group of Lake Stevens presents a half-hour performance of “The Jungle Book” at 6:30 p.m. today at the PUD auditorium, 2320 California St., Everett. Admission is $5. Go to www.ludusyouththeatre.org.

Improve your improv: Pick up some tips, maybe a new career, when the Blue Stilly Players present a free audience-participation improv show from 2 to 3:30 p.m. today at Legion Park, 114 N. Olympic Ave., Arlington. Go to www.arlingtonwa.gov.

Two pair: See the boys in Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple” at 8 tonight at the Historic Everett Theatre. Tickets are $8 and $10. Check availibility by calling 425-258-6766. The alternating (male or female) performances run through through Sept. 1 at the theater at 2911 Colby Ave.

Live radio: A family-style musical show, “The Kaddywompas Radio Show,” will be recorded live on stage at 7:30 tonight at the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater, 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. Tickets, available at the door, for “The River is Risin’!” are $15, but buy three and you get one free.

Outdoor jazz: Catch the Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra at the free Everett Port Gardner Landing Saturday Evening Waterfront Concert from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Port Gardner Landing, 1700 W. Marine View Drive, Everett. Go to enjoyeverett.org.
