EDMONDS -- The main road into downtown Edmonds will be torn up for the next couple of months.
The city expects work to begin Monday repaving Fifth Avenue for several blocks between Elm Way and Walnut Street. The work is scheduled to continue through October.
Sidewalk ramps at intersections and several driveways will be reconstructed to comply with the current federal Americans Disabilities Act standards.
During construction, expect pedestrian detours, temporary parking restrictions and delays for traffic control operations during construction. Property owners will be notified in advance when construction will begin in their area.
The project is being paid for by a $551,000 federal transportation grant. This section of Fifth Avenue hasn't been paved since 1991 and has several failed pavement sections and utility patches from past projects.
In addition, city construction crews completed storm drain improvements earlier this year in preparation for the pavement overlay.
For more informatino, call Ed Sibrel, project manager, at 425-771-0220.
