Bystander hit in Everett shooting; man arrested
The shooting unfolded shortly before 2 a.m. in the the 800 block of Hewitt Avenue, officials said.
An argument led to the shooting, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said.
"It doesn't appear that the victim in this case had anything to do with it," Snell said. "It doesn't look like he was the intended target. It looks like he was just an innocent bystander. I don't know if there was an intended person, per se."
The victim, who is believed to be in his 20s, was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett with what were believed to be injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening injuries, Snell said.
It appears that the bullet ricocheted before hitting him, Snell said. It wasn't immediately clear what the bullet struck first.
"There were multiple shots fired," Snell said. "We still don't know how many, but you could say numerous."
Detectives with the department's Major Crimes Unit were on the shooting scene well into the morning. They still are investigating the circumstances of the confrontation and what led up to it.
Police arrested the suspect about a block from the shooting scene and recovered a weapon, Snell said. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of assault.
