EVERETT -- Investigators have ruled out suspicious causes for a fatal apartment fire in north Everett on Friday, according to the fire department.
The cause of the fire was ruled "undetermined," meaning there was not enough information to pinpoint an exact source of the flames, Everett Assistant Fire Marshal Eric Hicks said Monday.
A man died in the fire, which broke out about 1 p.m. at the San Marco apartments in the 2400 block of Rucker Avenue.
The victim's name had not been released as of Monday afternoon.
Damage from the fire was estimated at $100,000.
Neighbors also reported hearing at least one explosion. Investigators believe that was the sound of an oxygen tank rupturing in the apartment where the fire started, city spokeswoman Meghan Pembroke said.
People who lived in the building since have been allowed to return, she said. Three people were displaced due to the damage to their homes.
The American Red Cross was called out to assist tenants after the fire.
