Let the games begin

Everett gets its opportunity to size itself up again actual opposition this weekend at the Everett Silvertips Preseason Classic at Comcast Arena. It's back to six teams this year, meaning three games each of the next three days. Here's the schedule:

Seattle vs. Tri-City, 11:30 a.m.
Portland vs. Spokane, 3 p.m.
Victoria vs. Everett, 7 p.m.

Portland vs. Everett, 7 p.m.

Everett reassigned seven more players Thursday in preparation for the tournament. Those seven are forwards Tyson Jost Nick White, defensemen Arsh Shergill, Jordan Wharrie, Alex Astasiewicz and Ryan Warner, and goaltender Carter Hart. All seven are prospects who were not candidates to make the team this year.

Notably Jost, Everett's first-round pick in this year's bantam draft, departed apparently without signing a WHL education contract with the team. The Tips had a lot of elite young talent at this year's training camp, but many of those players (Jost, Patrick Khodorenko, Alec Mehr, Jake Durflinger) left without making a firm commitment to the team. We'll have to see how this plays out over the next year or so.

One other player won't be playing this weekend, that being winger Jujhar Khaira. Khaira, who practiced with the Tips throughout the week, remains on the roster but will begin preparing for attending training camp with the NHL's Edmonton Oilers.

The reassignments, along with the unavailability of Khaira, leaves Everett with 29 players for this weekend's games. They are, along with their ages:

Forwards (17): Manraj Hayer (20), Reid Petryk (20), Josh Winquist (20), Kohl Bauml (19), Brayden Low (19), Logan Aasman (18), Linden Penner (18), Carson Stadnyk (18), Waltteri Hopponen (17), Dawson Leedahl (17), Ty Mappin (17), Ivan Nikolishin (17), Kyle Raymond (17), Tyler Sandhu (17), Mitch Skapski (17), Patrick Bajkov (16), Matt Fonteyne (16).

Defensemen (9): Matt Pufahl (20), Ben Betker (19), Austin Adam (18), Cole MacDonald (18), Mirco Mueller (18), Lucas Skrumeda (17), Micheal Zipp (17), Kevin Davis (16), Noah Juulsen (16).
