Dr. Maybelle Chapman, history teacher at Edmonds High School, addressed the Lynnwood Chamber of Commerce the day before yesterday on the subject of civil rights and how President Kennedy hoped to bring change to the world. Yesterday, Martin Luther King gave his "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington, D.C.
Everett Junior College had a new coffee shop, which replaced the bookstore in the Campus Center. The bookstore was temporarily in the Administration Building, but would move into one of the houses the college recently acquired.
25 years ago (1988)
Joey Bui started first grade today at Beverly Elementary. He was one of about 16,500 students attending their first day of school in the Edmonds School District. Joey's father, Sid, said his son was eager to begin school. Joey awoke early and got his father up early.
Among the animals at the petting farm at the Evergreen State Fair were goats, ducklings, baby rabbits, young llamas, lambs and piglets. Livestock master Scott Fox, of Monroe, one of the supervisors, said the farm was always busy.
