United Way of Snohomish County announced a new effort Tuesday that will provide up to $330,000 over three years to local agencies working to reduce poverty.
Grants will be aimed not at services for the poor, but at what United Way calls “capacity building” for groups involved in addressing intergenerational poverty.
Capacity-building grants will pay for training and other professional development for staff and volunteers; strengthening financial controls; board development, staff licenses or credentials; software for data management; phones, computers and infrastructure improvements; and translation services.
Along with money, groups receiving grants will get technical support and take part in peer mentoring.
Grants will be distributed to large and small organizations. Potential applicants are asked to attend one of two bidders’ conferences, scheduled for 2-3:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and 10-11:30 a.m. Sept. 20 in the United Way of Snohomish County Board Room, 3120 McDougall Ave., Suite 200, Everett. Space is limited; RSVP by Sept. 16 by calling Toni Esper, 425-374-5523 or email toni.esper@uwsc.org.
Applications will be accepted online starting Sept. 18. The deadline to apply is Oct. 4. Information: www.uwsc.org/capacitybuilding.php.
