I was disappointed to read Rep. Rick Larsen’s comments on the weakness of Little League infrastructure in the Tuesday article, “Two airports get nearly $2 million in grants.” (In a statement, Larsen said, “We can’t have a big league economy with little league infrastructure.”) While I understand that “major league” effort is required to make this FAA grant happen, his description of Little League infrastructure minimizes the efforts of the many board members, managers and coaches, umpires and many families that support Little League with their volunteer efforts here in Snohomish County.
When the new airport taxiway lighting system is dedicated at the Arlington Airport I would invite Mr. Larsen to be my guest at Quake Fields across the street from the airport to enjoy the Little League experience first hand. I will supply the lawn chair, buy the hot dogs and introduce Mr. Larsen to what can only be described as the littlest “Big League” experience he will ever have.
