Camping and hiking meals don’t have to be like army MREs. That stands for Meals, Ready-to Eat.
Learn to cook your hearty outdoor vittles like the pioneers did, in one pot over hot coals.
Everett Parks and Recreation offers a class in outdoor cooking using a Dutch oven from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 21. The class costs $10 and is for anyone 10 years old and older at the Forest Park Outdoor Shelter.
You’ll learn how to get started with this cooking method, how to season your Dutch oven, and how to make breakfast, lunch or dinner and desserts.
The Dutch oven cooking class is one of several outdoors classes offered by the Everett parks department this fall. To register online go to http://signmeup.everettwa.gov. You can also call 425-257-8300, ext. 2, or stop in at the Recreation Office at Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd.
Everett Parks and Recreation’s Fall Guide is available in PDF form at www.ci.everett.wa.us. Select Recreation Guides or pick one up at the Recreation Office or at local libraries.
