SCAPPOOSE, Ore. — A man died Saturday afternoon when his gyrocopter crashed in field near Scappoose, Ore.
The Oregonian reported that the pilot’s name has not been released.
Witnesses near the scene were able to help pull the pilot from the burning wreckage, but told authorities that the pilot was already dead by the time they arrived.
Lisa and Austin Peel told KGW-TV that they were watching planes at the Scappoose Industrial Airpark with their 10-month old son when they saw the crash. They ran to the scene, pulling him out of the aircraft, but he was already dead.
Federal Aviation Administration inspectors remained at the scene Saturday looking for clues to the cause of the crash.
