How many buildings exist from the early 1900’s?
The answer is very few, especially in Washington.
The Skykomish Hotel is steeped in history of both the town of Skykomish as well as the Great Northern Railroad, now the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway which operates throughout the USA.
The hotel is slated to be demolished any day now.
The primary reason is conflict between the current owners, the town, and King County.
If this hotel is demolished, we will be throwing away over 100 years of history. What a travesty to not only the community but future generations to come.
We should fight hard to preserve this historical landmark so our children and our children’s children can enjoy the history as well as modern amenities that could be built on this property.
It is high time for the county and town to cut the red tape and work together with the owner to make this property a historically accurate, but world class vacation destination.
This plan is in line with current economic revival in the town, and fits well with the town’s master plan.
It is time for the community to come together and save this historical railroad building from the wrecking ball.
