This photo show the Mountaineers on a summer outing to Glacier Peak in 1921.

I have quite a soft spot for The Mountaineers. I completed their scrambling course this year, and I learned a ton.

So, naturally, I'm fascinated by this collection of photos from the early days of the club. Even if you're not much interested in the Mountaineers, or in outdoor activities, these photos are a fun look at history.

The University of Washington has collected photos from the Moutaineers. They show some of the first major expeditions, including the one shown here of an outing to Glacier Peak, the highest point in Snohomish County.

One detail I found particularly fascinating was the number of women who were charter members: More than half of the 151 initial members. "Women mountaineers constituted an important contributing membership to the club and are very prominent in many of the early photographs of the Mountaineers outings," according the UW Library description of this collection.

Click here to see the collection. But beware, it's kind of like going down a rabbit hole. You might be there for awhile.
