I have been following the news articles and opinion discussions regarding disabled people who need to use handicapped parking spaces. Although I am not disabled, my frustration is with non-disabled drivers who think they are entitled to use a handicapped parking stall if they have a disabled passenger with a legitimate/legal handicapped parking permit. The driver could easily drop off the handicapped passenger at the destination entrance, then park the car somewhere else in the parking lot and walk back to the entrance. However, I have witnessed the physically capable driver pull into a handicapped space and park there. This means the handicapped accessible parking space is not being used as it was intended for drivers who are unable to walk independently from a remote parking stall. While this may be technically legal, I think it is disrespectful, thoughtless and selfish for a physically capable driver to park in a handicapped parking space.
Please remember that it would be better for drivers who are physically capable to drop off their handicapped passengers first, and then park the car in a regular parking stall, so the handicapped parking stalls remain available for those who really need to use them (i.e., handicapped drivers).
