MOUNT VERNON — The state Transportation Department says traffic on I-5 through Mount Vernon will be detoured again this weekend for work on the Skagit River bridge.
The department says traffic will be detoured for about 12 hours while a permanent span is rolled into position Saturday night to replace a temporary span.
The temporary span was installed in June after traffic was detoured for nearly a month when an oversize truck hit the bridge, causing a portion to fall into the water.
The permanent replacement span should allow traffic to resume freeway speed.
More nighttime detours will begin next Monday as girders are retrofitted to improve clearance on the I-5 Skagit River bridge.
