The Tips made a trio of cuts today, and in the process the axe fell on a pair of veterans from last year’s team as right wing Ryan White and left wing Tyler Parker were on the list.
Both White and Parker were part-time players last season. The 18-year-old White was released outright as it was deemed he’d been passed in the depth chart by younger players. He appeared in 48 games last season, registering five goals and two assists. The 17-year-old Parker was reassigned to a location yet to be determined as the Tips retained his rights. It was decided Parker wasn’t going to be a full-time player this season, and Everett wants him to go to a place where he’ll get playing time. He had three goals and three assists in 44 games last season.
The other player cut was overage center Alex Poulter, who was also released. Poulter, claimed off waivers from Prince George, had eight goals and 15 assists in 65 games last season. Poulter’s release leaves Everett with four overagers for three spots: forwards Shane Harper, Zack Dailey and Travis Dunstall and defenseman Colin Scherger. The Tips plan on carrying all four into the season, perhaps all the way to the Oct. 15 overager cutdown date.
Today’s cuts leave 27 players on the roster, a number that includes 15 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders. They are, with birth year:
Forwards: Cameron Abney (91), Zack Dailey (89), Travis Dunstall (89), Campbell Elynuik (92), Byron Froese (91), Shane Harper (89), Dale Hunt (90), Daniel Iwanski (90), Tyler Maxwell (91), Markus McCrea (92), D.Jay McGrath (92), Kellan Tochkin (91), Corey Tyrell (90), Paul Van de Velde (90), Josh Winquist (93).
Defensemen: Chris de la Lande (90), Radko Gudas (90), Drew McDermott (91), Gabe Minville (92), Ryan Murray (93), Rasmus Rissanen (91), Colin Scherger (89), Paul Sohor (91), Alex Theriau (92).
Goaltenders: Thomas Heemskerk (90), Luke Siemens (92), Kent Simpson (92).
The Tips will likely reduce the roster by two or three more at some point (Siemens will be one of those), but they can’t really afford to do anything else until the rest of the NHL campers return.
