STANWOOD — Down 2-0, the Everett volleyball team came back to sweep the final three sets as the Seagulls defeated Stanwood in a nonleague matchup on Tuesday night.
Everett was led by senior setter Tenika Wentworth and sophomore Yev Lutskova. Wentworth recorded 38 assists while Lutskova added 22 digs and nine kills in the win.
“Our first two sets were pretty good,” said Stanwood head coach Erik Titus. “It was real high energy with not a lot of mistakes. But Everett just stuck with it, they were really consistent. It’s really tough to make a come back like that. It was really impressive.”
Despite the loss coach Titus had a positive outlook on the Spartans play after the first match of the season.
“I think we can improve,” Titus said. “(Everett) put us in a position and forced us to make some errors. There’s a lot of things you can take away from it, to play five sets in your first match is pretty good.”
