"It was a really interesting match for us," said Shorewood coach Arnie Moreno. "We had a lot of young kids step up and they really performed well under pressure."
Moreno employed four sophomores at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and the teams of Hugh Gaevert-Kyle Berquist and Cameron Harford-Simon Forniash came up with victories. Harford and Forniash's 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win over the Kamiak team of David Chung and Ben Lee proved to be the clinching match.
Thunderbirds freshman Jack Bong also scored a victory and beat Kamiak's Dominic Lee 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
Joseph Lee and the pairing of Ian Kim and Jason Garide earned victories for the Knights, but it was Kamiak's No. 1 singles player Jimmy Hua who Moreno was most impressed with. Hua beat Shorewood's Cameron McDowell 6-2, 7-5.
"Jimmy Hua at No. 1 is a tough kid," said Moreno. "Jimmy played tough, long rallies and I was really impressed with how tenacious he was and how quick his feet were."
