Now, on to Seahawks-49ers, which unfortunately for us scribes, is a rivalry nobody wants to talk about. Dave Boling of the News Tribune and Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times also weigh in on the lack of smack talk going on between the teams.
But, after we had all written those stories, 49ers running back Anthony Dixon finally fired a shot via Twitter, calling the Seahawks the “She-Hawks.” K.J. Wright responded to Dixon’s Tweet, calling San Francisco the “forty whiners.” The Tweets have since been deleted, but the folks over at Sports Radio KJR captured the screen grabs. Not exactly heated stuff, especially when you consider the two were college teammates, but hey, it’s better than nothing.
Doug Farrar of SI.com also weighs in on the rivalry, calling it “the NFL’s most compelling current rivalry.”
In today’s Herald, we also have a notebook leading with the news that Brandon Browner could be back, and why that’s important as the Seahawks prepare for 49ers receiver Anquan Boldin, who had 208 receiving yards last week. Eric Williams of the News Tribune also looks at Boldin, who the Seahawks know from playing the Ravens in 2011.
In my notebook, there’s a quote from Earl Thomas saying the Seahawks will provide a different challenge for the ‘Niners passing game than did the Packers, and according to this story at csnbayarea.com, San Francisco players agree. Also from Matt Maiocco at CSN Bay Area, a look at how the 49ers are trying to prepare for the crowd noise, which was an issue for them last time they came here.
The San Francisco Chronicle has a humorous look at why Seahawks and 49ers fans hate each other.
Sports Illustrated’s Jim Trotter looks at the development of San Francisco’s offense, which will test the Seahawks this week.
ESPN’s Seahawks blog has a nice breakdown of the matchup.
And finally, Grantland.com has a good story looking at the play of middle linebacker Bobby Wagner.
