Two thumbs up

Coming attraction: Film buffs in Champaign, Ill., are raising money for a sculpture to honor Roger Ebert, film critic for the Chicago Sun-Times, who died in April. The sculpture will show Ebert seated in a theater chair, one thumb up in approval.

For added realism, the ground around the statue will be made permanently tacky from spilled sodas, and fresh gum will be placed under his seat each day.

--

Spoilsports: A federal appeals court ruled that Google wrongly collected emails, videos and more from people's personal Wi-Fi systems as it drove along their streets with its Street View mapping cameras. The court ruled Google had violated wiretap laws and ordered it to destroy any files it had collected.

Google said it would destroy the files soon; it just wanted to watch the video of you singing into your hairbrush in your underwear one last time.

--

Chim chim chiree: Tacoma firefighters rescued a man who got himself stuck inside a chimney. The man's excuses included "ceiling repair," "hide and seek" and "stupid pet trick."

We can offer a few more: Preparations for Santa Claus, squirrel chasing and Dick Van Dyke impression.
