Friday Seahawks links

Two days until the big Seahawks-49ers showdown. If you’re having a hard time passing the time between now and Sunday night, try some light reading.

In today’s Herald, I caught up with former Stanford players Doug Baldwin and Richard Sherman to talk about facing their former coach. Baldwin in particular has enjoyed success against Jim Harbaugh’s 49ers, catching four of his seven career touchdowns in four games. We also have a notebook leading with the attempt to set a record for fan noise.

If you need any catching up on the best rivalry in the NFL, Jayson Jenks of the Seattle Times has you covered.

While both team’s quarterbacks are getting a lot of attention, Fox Sports reports that at least some 49ers players aren’t too impressed with Russell Wilson.

Eric Williams of the News Tribune writes about Golden Tate’s growth.

USA Today has cool charts looking at how teams spend their money. You’ll notice QB is barely a sliver on the Seahawks’ pie chart, something that is a huge advantage for them (at least for a couple years until they’ll have to pay Russell Wilson).

And along those lines, ESPN’s Adam Schefter writes about how the Seahawks and 49ers are taking advantage of having young, inexpensive quarterbacks who allow them to spend elsewhere.

Davis Hsu of Fieldgulls.com has a thorough breakdown of Seattle’s third-down plays against Carolina.

It’s probably way too early to be talking about awards, but what the heck. . . ESPN’s Dan Graziano has Russell Wilson No. 3 on his MVP watch behind Peyton Manning and Colin Kaepernick.

Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News is picking the Seahawks in a close one, though he expects the 49ers to play much better than they did when they came here in December. Over at the San Francisco Chronicle, they take a look at how the 49ers hope to slow Marshawn Lynch.

Doug Farrar of SI.com looks at what makes Anquan Boldin so dangerous.

And finally, Grantland.com provides a timeline of how the NFC West went from laughing stock to the NFL’s best division.
