Here are two good reasons to head to McCollum Park on Thursday: Naturalist Lori Powlas and zoologist Tom Noland will lead a walk around the park at 10 a.m.
Enjoy the colors of fall on a nature walk and learn to identify plants, fish and wildlife in our own back yard as you stroll by the wetlands along North Creek Trail.
The nature walk is geared for first-graders and up.
Later Thursday, at 7 p.m., join Keith Aubry of U.S. Forest Service’s Pacific Northwest Research Station for a presentation on wolverines in Washington state at the NW Stream Center.
Aubry will talk about the range, population and habits of wolverines in the North Cascades based on his extensive research.
Aubry was the first researcher to radio-collar an adult male, Rocky, in 2012 and track him as he mated with two females. Scientists were then able to study the two wolverine dens.
Aubry will also discuss the myths and truths about the sharp-toothed predators.
The program presented by the Adopt A Stream Foundation is geared for middle-schoolers and up.
Registration for both events is required; call 425-316-8592. Tickets are $5 for members and $7 nonmembers. The center is at 600 128th St. SE, in Everett. See www.streamkeeper.org for more information.
