KENT -- Perfection.
The Everett Silvertips capped a perfect preseason Saturday night by defeating the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-3 in their preseason finale.
Everett, which barely scraped into the playoffs last season by finishing eighth in the WHL's 10-team Western Conference, finished 7-0 in the preseason. The Tips, who were the lowest-scoring team in the league last season, are also the highest-scoring team in the preseason with 36 goals. Everett scored five or more goals in each of its final five games of the preseason.
Sixteen-year-old defenseman Kevin Davis led the way for Everett, tallying a goal and two assists. He played a part in two of the three goals the Tips scored in the final three minutes of the first period to turn a 1-1 tie into a 4-1 lead.
Carson Stadnyk, Linden Penner, Matt Pufahl and Dawson Leedahl also scored for Everett, which finished off a sweep of a home-and-home weekend set against the T-birds. Daniel Cotton made 24 saves to earn the win in goal for the Tips.
Alexander Delnov, Branden Troock and Roberts Lipsbergs scored for Seattle (4-3). Justin Myles made 32 saves in net for the T-birds.
