The technology is coming fast, but it's just not there yet locally, according to officials at SNOPAC, one of the county's primary emergency dispatch systems.

There is one new advancement though:
Now people who try to text 911 get an error message back, so they at least know their message didn't go through. Providers are required to send the messages as of Sept. 30, according to an FCC guide.
It reads like this, "Please make a voice call to 911. There is no text service to 911 available at this time."
