Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1963)

The Snohomish-Island County Red Cross purchased a new $23,000 Chapter House after renting facilities for 15 years at 2810 Rockefeller Ave. The house was the 11-room Van Valley House at 2130 Colby Ave., which most recently had housed the Andiron Restaurant, operated by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sova.

The Cheetah Plastic Co. plant, three miles north of Marysville on the Marshall Road, was destroyed in a fire and explosion yesterday. Three companies of Marysville firemen worked for more than an hour to contain the blaze.

25 years ago (1988)

At Monroe, John Tiffany recorded a time of 15 minutes, 25 seconds over the 2.91-mile course at Monroe High School to win the individual title and lead Mariner High School to a non-conference cross country victory. Ezdra Perez finished second and Vudhey Bou was sixth to add to Mariner's margin of victory.

At Arlington, Cystal Hodges scored in the first half and Kelly Mani in the second to lead the Eagles to a Northwest AA soccer victory. Mani's goal was a header off an assist by Jami Klein. Freshman goaltender Brenna Nardiner recorded her second straight shutout as the Eagles downed Anacortes.
