The Everett Public Library is offering historical perspectives near and far with two free programs this week.
Northwest Room historian David Dilgard will talk about the first railroad in Snohomish in 1888 at a presentation at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The booming logging and lumber industries were eager to link up to transcontinental lines and put Snohomish on the map. The town was ready when the Seattle, Lake Shore &Eastern Railway chugged in, but it wasn’t the bonus they hoped for.
On Sept. 28, Rebecca Albiani, an art historian with the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, gives a presentation on Michelangelo’s frescoes on the Sistine Chapel ceiling that some call the greatest artwork ever executed.
At the direction of Pope Julius II, Michelangelo created the paintings in the Vatican’s chapel lying on his back on scaffolding.
The program begins at 2 p.m.
The Everett Public Library is at 2702 Hoyt Ave. Call 425-257-8000 for more information about these events. Go to www.epls.org for more library programs.
