Seahawks-Jaguars game thread
Sorry for the lack of updates. Got caught up working on stuff for tomorrow's paper, and well, this game is getting ugly. It's now 45-17 Seahawks after a Tarvaris Jackson TD run--he also threw for one--and while Jacksonville is putting some offense together against Seattle's backups, this game is what we were expecting--a blowout for the Seahawks.
Back after the game with news, notes and quotes.
Seahawks lead 24-0 at halftime
Well, about the only mystery left in this game is how much longer Seattle keeps all of its starters in the game. Russell Wilson hit Sidney Rice in the back of the end zone to cap a five-play 79-yard touchdown drive that took ust 34 seconds at the end of the half. That followed an interception by Bobby Wagner, who tipped the ball in the air, then made an impressive diving catch. The turnover helped erase one by Seattle moments earlier when Russell Wilson was sacked and fumbled.
So far the Seahawks have outgained Jacksonville 275 to 52, and have 16 first downs to four for the Jags.
Seahawks lead now 17-0
This game is starting to get out of hand, even if the Seahawks did miss a chance to make it 21-0 by getting stuffed at the goal line on third down. Instead, the Seahawks settled for a chip-shot field goal.
The way the Jaguars are going on offense--or not going, to be more precise--a 17-point lead fees pretty massive for the Seahawks.
One injury note. Jermaine Kearse limped off the field after making a 17-yard catch on that last Seahawks drive and has since gone to the locker room. No update on his status yet.
Miller with another TD
It's Zach Miller scoring his second touchdown of the game, catching a 4-yard pass when he once again was wide open.
Jacksonville, meanwhile, had minus-9 yards of offense on three first-quarter possessions.
Seahawks take early lead
After going three-and-out on their first possession, the Seahawks got things going with a nice 71-yard touchdown drive. Zach Miller got the touchdown on a third-and-goal play from the 1-yard line that had everybody fooled. With the Jags expecting a third straight Marshawn Lynch carry, everybody bit on the play-action fake, and Wilson floated a pass to a wide, wide open Miller.
Of note early, Cliff Avril started at the Leo DE spot, not Chris Clemons. Clemons came in on third down as the Seahawks went with fast D line of Clemons, Avril, Bennett and Schofield.
7-0 Seahawks with 8:04 left in the first quarter.
Looks like it's going to be another rainy game-day for the Seahawks, though at least there's no lightning in the forecast today.
The Jags and Seahawks will kick off in a little over an hour, but in the meantime, here are today's inactives.
Seahawks: S Jeron Johnson, FB Spencer Ware, LB Malcolm Smith, DT D'Anthony Smith, DE Benson Mayowa, DT Jordan Hill.
And if you're thinking that list is a person short, that's because the Seahawks only 52 on their roster currently because Russell Okung went on injured reserve/designated for return, and the Seahawks have not yet filled that spot on the roster, though they are expected to sign tackle Caylin Hauptmann off the Browns' practice squad early this week (he already Tweeted that he is joining the Seahawks).
With Smith out with a hamstring injury, O'Brien Schofield is expected to start at strongside linebacker. Schofield started the season opener at defensive end, making the Cardinals castoff quite the valuable summer pickup off of waivers.
Jaguars: QB Blaine Gabbert, WR Mike Brown, S Winston Guy, CB Alan Ball, CB Dwayne Gratz, TE Mercedes Lewis, DT Abry Jones.
Running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who was questionable with an ankle injury, will play.
