LACEY — Authorities in Thurston County on Monday apprehended a 30-year-old man suspected of fatally stabbing his mother and seriously injuring a 67-year-old former neighbor.
Tyler Lewis was arrested after he showed up at his mom’s home as deputies were investigating the two stabbings, said Thurston County sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Brady.
Detectives were still trying to determine the sequence of events, but they believe Lewis used a screwdriver to stab his mother at her home in the Lacey area, then went to the home of his former neighbor a few miles away and stabbed him, Brady said.
The motive was unclear, Brady said.
Authorities were first alerted at about 3 p.m. when a woman found a dog wandering on a busy roadway and followed it home. There she discovered a 67-year-old man lying on the ground next to his wheelchair and called for help.
He had several stab wounds and was in “very serious” condition at a local hospital Monday afternoon, Brady said.
While police were investigating the man’s stabbing, they got a call from another location around 5 p.m. from a man reporting that his wife had been stabbed. The caller identified the attacker as his stepson.
