WESCO 4A
Brianna Lucien, Mariner, So. and Demetra Laurent, Cascade, Jr.
500 Free
These two will battle it out for the best times in the longest event in prep swim after finishing third and sixth, respectively, at state a year ago. Lucien has a definite chance at a state title after watching the two competitors who bested her in Federal Way last year graduate. Lucien finished ninth in the 200 free, missing a spot on the podium by a 1.15 seconds.
Lavinya Yap, Monroe, Jr.
200 IM, 100 Back
The Bearcats swimmer finished fifth at state in the 200 individual medley and was .33 seconds away from the podium in the 100 backstroke.
Djenne Dickens, Edmonds-Woodway, Sr.
50, 100 Free
In the lightning-quick races nobody is better in Wesco than this Warrior swimmer. Dickens finished 11th and 12th in the two races, respectively, at state last year but is looking to sneak onto the podium this year. She’s already qualified for state in the 50 free with her opening time of 25.21.
Laura Johnson, Kamiak, Sr.
100 Fly
The Knights swimmer finished behind Jackson’s Kaitlin Taylor in this event at districts last season, but with Taylor gone this is Johnson’s turn to shine.
WESCO 3A
Melody Coleman, Marysville Pilchuck, Sr.
100 Breast, 200 IM
With Hannah Taylor now swimming at University of Nevada-Las Vegas, this Tomahawks swimmer is now the one to watch. Coleman finished fifth at state in the 100 breaststroke and was 13th in the 200 individual medley last year.
Anna Keane, Meadowdale, Sr.
50, 100 Free
The two-time defending state champ is really swimming across the clock. Keane will be looking to three-peat in both events and beat her state-winning times of 23.36 and 50.60, respectively. She’s also shooting for the state records of 22.92, set in 2008 by Mt. Rainier’s Leona Jennings, and 50.16, set in 2003 by Bainbridge’s Emily Silver.
Britt Blomso, Shorewood, So.
100 Fly, 100 Back
As a freshman, the Thunderbirds swimmer was all over the finish sheets. Blomso helped the 200 medley and 200 free relay teams take fourth at state last year and individually was in the finals of the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. She’s already qualified for state in the 100 butterfly and is looking to make the podium in both races.
