MULKITEO — The Kamiak girls soccer team continued its strong start after knocking off Monroe in a Wesco crossover match.
Knights defender Anne Ferguson volleyed home a Baylie Lux-Lowry corner kick in the 27th minute for match’s lone goal as Kamiak improved to 5-1 in league play.
Kamiak outshot the visiting Bearcats 14-5, but could not get an insurance goal past Monroe goalkeeper Sydney Day, who made 11 saves.
“Their keeper definitely kept them in the game,” said Kamiak head coach Beth Stewart. “She came up with some huge saves and played awesome.”
Knights goalkeeper Shannon Peth had a significant stop of her own, denying a one-on-one opportunity for Monroe late in the second half.
