Friday links: Seahawks O-line injuries piling up

In today’s Herald, I wrote about what a handful Texans DE J.J. Watt will be for the Seahawks, particularly if they don’t starting RT Breno Giacomini, and this morning, Pete Carroll said on his weekly radio spot on Kiro that Giacomini and center Max Unger are unlikely to play.

“We are banged up,” Carroll said. “We’ve got some guys that are going to have a hard time making it this week, particularly we haven’t been able to get Breno Giacomini or Max Unger back on the practice field full-go. So we’re going to have some guys step up. We’ll always be about the guys that step in rather than those guys that can’t go, so we’ll see how Lem (Jeanpierre) does at center, and we’re kind of fired up to see what Michael Bowie does if he gets the chance to play at tackle. He’s been coming along strong. So that’s kind of how the season goes, these are the issues that you face, and hopefully we’ll deal with this very well.”

Along those lines, Danny O’Neil of 710 ESPN Seattle says the Seahawks’ line depth will be tested in Houston.

Seattle Times columnist Jerry Brewer says this week’s opponent is a good cautionary tale that being the NFL’s top dog can be fleeting.

For the second day in a row, a national publication is looking at the rise of Jake Locker, who will come to Seattle in a couple of weeks with the Titans. This time it’s TheMMQB.com looking into the former Husky.

Bill Barnwell of Grantland looks at yesterday’s NFC West clash and said San Francisco’s win left him with more questions about the ‘Niners than answers.

Terry Blount of ESPN.com offers his keys to the game.

The folks at ESPN’s NFL Live all like the Seahawks chances this weekend.
