Associated Press
YAKIMA -- A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for fatally shooting two teenagers at a Naches River swimming hole last year.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reported that Lameiro Flores initially claimed self-defense in shooting at three teenagers. However, last week he pleaded guilty to two charges of first-degree murder. He was sentenced Monday.
Killed were 17-year-old Jose Avilez and 18-year-old Jobany Martinez. Flores said they had assaulted him in the past and he feared another attack. Police say the two were shot in the head at close range.
A third teen escaped injury.
Prosecutors said Flores was never in imminent danger and suggested he went to the river with murder in mind.
