KENAI, Alaska — Kenai Peninsula voters have overwhelming decided they want lower taxes.
The Peninsula Clarion reports residents on Tuesday voted to increase the allowable residential property tax exemption for qualifying taxpayers from $20,000 to $50,000.
Proponents said it will reduce property taxes by hundreds of dollars annually for homeowners.
The cost to the borough will be $1.3 million, and critics said it will affect the quality of service at recreation areas and firefighting facilities.
Voters also overwhelming kept term limits in place for borough assembly members and approved $22 million in bonds for school maintenance.
