Strange bedfellows: America’s corporate elite have often opposed President Barack Obama’s policies, but now they’re taking his side in the showdown with congressional Republicans, saying the shutdown and the looming debt ceiling crisis are terrible for business.
Perhaps the big shots’ message would resonate more effectively with the tea party wing of the GOP if they wore tricorne hats instead of bespoke suits and drove Rascal Scooters instead of BMW M6s.
A staycation would be better: The shutdown has closed many attractions across the nation’s capital, but don’t fret, tourists: you can still enter the Capitol to hear lawmakers debate.
Just remember — no pelting the Congresscritters with rotten fruit, no matter how much they deserve it.
Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1789, George Washington proclaimed Nov. 26 as a day of thanksgiving to express gratitude for the creation of the United States of America.
Perhaps the Father of His Country had an inkling that the city that bears his name would one day become a haven for turkeys.
