Sausage Fest: Fun with all the fixings in Everett

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

That adage applies to the Everett Sausage Festival, running Friday through Sunday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

This is the 37th year the Bavarian fest has been serving sauerkraut, sausage and suds.

This year, expect more of the same.

“It’s going to be the same as always, same good food, carnival and beer,” said volunteer Frauna Hoglund, who hasn’t missed a single year since the fair started.

And, of course, there will be the same sausage — some 2,600 pounds of it.

“You can only get this sausage here,” Hoglund said, “and it’s pretty dang good.”

The sauerkraut is an old German recipe. It’s pretty dang good, too.

“It’s a friendly fest,” Hoglund said. “They’re having fun, having some food and eating dinner.”

The festival was founded to support Catholic education at Immaculate Conception/Our Lady of Perpetual Help School.

Because of a long overlooked state code on property-tax exemptions for nonprofit religious groups, the festival almost didn’t happen this year. Long story short: It all worked out, at least for this year.

If brats and kraut aren’t your thing, there’s chicken, salmon, burgers, corn dogs and elephant ears. The midway has games and rides. Bingo games are nonstop from open until close. The top raffle prize is $5,000.

Admission is free. A free shuttle will run every 20 minutes from the south parking lot of the Everett Transit Station.

Smoking, pets, roller blades, skateboards and bikes are not allowed at the fest.
