EVERETT — A Lynnwood man surrendered Thursday evening after Everett police spent the day looking for him in connection with a knife attack the night before that left a woman bleeding from her neck.
The woman, 20, was cut around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday when she agreed to meet with a former boyfriend outside a store in the 7600 block of Evergreen Way, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said. Her screams alerted people nearby and her assailant fled.
Police on Thursday released a public safety bulletin asking for help in finding Yonathan A. Carreno Duarte, 28.
He surrendered to police at about 8:30 p.m. and was booked into the Snohomish County Jail, Snell said.
The woman received multiple cuts to her neck. While her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, she required care at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, Snell said.
A knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered.
The woman’s slashing was one of two violent incidents in Everett on Wednesday night.
The other incident involved a machete cut to a man’s face, according to police. The violence began with a 7:30 p.m. fight between two brothers at an apartment in the 3200 block of 18th Street, Snell said.
A neighbor, 47, tried to break up the fight, but the brothers reportedly turned on him. One of the brothers began hitting the man with a baseball bat, Snell said. The neighbor used a machete and cut one of the brothers, 20, in the face.
The injury was serious enough that the wound required treatment at Harborview.
No arrests were made in the machete incident and it is unclear Thursday whether charges will be brought, Snell said. The man who used the machete said he acted in self defense.
