Oak Harbor man rescued; sailboat washes up at Ocean Shores

OCEAN SHORES -- A 40-foot sailboat that had to be abandoned in a helicopter rescue off Tillamook, Ore. during Saturday's storm, has washed up at Ocean Shores, about 100 miles north.
KBKW reported that police spotted the boat's mast Wednesday and they recovered what they could during low tide, including the dinghy.
The boat is breaking up in the surf.
The Coast Guard rescued an Oak Harbor man Saturday evening as fierce winds and relentless waves threatened to overtake his sailboat about 14 miles off the coast of Tillamook Bay.
Duane Jones had been alone on his sailboat for three days with little food when an onslaught of 50-knot winds and 20-foot swells descended upon his vessel. Seeing no safe way out alone, Jones called for help at about 8 p.m., said Petty Officer Jeremy Young with the Coast Guard.
A Coast Guard crew from Portland arrived by helicopter about half an hour later and airlifted Jones to land.
