SEATTLE -- The Skamania County sheriff's office says a limited air and ground search found no sign of an Oregon man missing in a remote area of southwest Washington. A more extensive helicopter search of the Pacific Crest Trail in that county on Thursday found no trace of a young Oregon woman who has been out of contact with relatives.
Undersheriff Dave Cox said an extensive air search is planned Friday for 31-year-old Kristopher Zitzewitz of the Portland area. He became separated from his hiking partner Saturday in the Big Lava Beds area of Gifford Pinchot National Forest, southwest of 12,280-foot Mount Adams.
Cox said there is no indication that 23-year-old Alejandra Wilson of Portland is still in Skamania County. Wilson's father reported her overdue for a phone check-in Monday. It's not clear whether she needs any assistance. She's been hiking the length of the Pacific Crest Trail, which runs 2,650 miles from Mexico to the Canadian border.
