Weekend fun: Sausage fest, Downton dining and more

Sausage Fest: The 37th annual Everett Sausage Festival runs through Sunday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at Everett Avenue and Cedar Street. Carnival rides, midway games, bingo, a wine and beer garden and plenty of sausage (other foods too) round out the weekend. Admission is free and a free shuttle will transport people from the Everett Transit Station. Get the details in our story here.

Watering holes: Trudge around, maybe not in the rain, to view several rain gardens in the north Everett neighborhood from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The Snohomish Conservation District and the city of Everett are sponsoring the free event, which begins at Washington Oakes, 1717 Rockefeller Ave. A presentation about flooding issues and rain garden advantages precedes the tour. Be sure to bring rain-appropriate gear. Walk-ins are welcome to join the tour.

Manorly manners: No wonder many of the situations on PBS’s “Downton Abbey” are played out around the dining table. They had 12 courses to plow through, in proper order with proper china and manners. Learn all about it at a free presentation with actress Tames Alan at 2 p.m. Saturday. “Dining at Downton” is at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave. Sorry, you can wear your best bib and tucker, but there will be no food served.

Killer whales: Learn all about orcas at the NW Stream Center in Everett on Saturday. The presenter will show surface and underwater photos and videos. After attending this show, people will be able to identify when a whale is swimming to get to another location, hunting for salmon or just playing. Get more info in our story here.

Training day: Big doings in Granite Falls on Saturday. It’s the annual Railroad and Reunion Days celebrating the history of railroads that ran through the town, with parades, carnival rides, a 5K run/walk and barbecue sandwiches at the Fire Hall. The race begins at 9 a.m. (sign up between 7:45 and 8:45 a.m.). The main parade begins at noon. Call 360-691-7733 or click here to learn more.

Ruffles &Rust: Check out a vintage marketplace on Friday and Saturday at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. is the early shopping event, tickets are $30 at the door. Saturday the market will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $7, $4 for kids younger than 6. Get more details here.

Beads needs: The Northwest Bead Society’s annual bazaar is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Hansen Conference Center at Comcast Arena in Everett, 2000 Hewitt Ave. The event will have dozens purveyors of beads, demonstrations, materials and all manner of items for making jewelry. Admission is $5. Bead society members are admitted free.

Piano tunes: The Snohomish County Music Teachers Association is holding a benefit concert Saturday at 7 p.m. at Everett Music Hall. The $10 suggested donation helps support the association and the Everett Music Hall. The classical performance includes pieces by Steinway artist Yelena Balabanova, who will play Chopin etudes and selections from the Warsaw Concerto. The Everett Music Hall is inside Everett Mall. Ecotober: Brightwater Center is celebrating “Ecotober” all month. The sustainability series kicks off on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be live music, art, tours, speakers and all-ages fun. You can dig in a worm bin, create art out of recycled materials or learn from experts about building rain gardens. Don’t get lost: Stop by the county’s Search and Rescue base from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, 5506 Old Machias Road, in Snohomish. View the rescue equipment, live helicopter rescue hoist and hovercraft demonstrations and sit in on a number of presentations. Learn how to stay safe in the outdoors directly from the rescuers who come to the aid of those in trouble. The event is free, although donations are welcome. Click here for more information.

For the birds: Kids can make an pine cone bird feeder and adults can learn more about our feathered friends on Saturday. The event at Molbak’s in Woodinville is from 10 a.m. to noon. Details are here.

Get outside: Cabela’s in Tulalip is having an event just for women on Saturday. The classes are taught by women for women and include fly tying, archery and more. Get more details here.
