EDMONDS — Meadowdale football fans can add a near-perfect Wesco 3A South win to their list of memories as the Mavericks on Friday shut out Shorewood 34-0 on homecoming night.
Mavericks’ running back Malik Braxton dodged past defenders all game and scored three of Meadowdale’s five touchdowns.
Mavs quarterback Jeremiah Evans had success in the air and on the ground, connecting with his brother Josiah Evans for a 39-yard TD on the opening drive of the game and running 24 yards for a TD in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
Meadowdale set a trend early, eating up yardage primarily with screen passes to Braxton. Meadowdale led 21-0 at the intermission after Shorewood spent most of the first half going backward. The Thunderbirds made just three first downs all game and frequently lost yardage.
At 2-0, the Mavericks are halfway through their conference season, with league games left against Mountlake Terrace (2-3) and Glacier Peak (5-0). Meadowdale faces the undefeated Grizzlies on Oct. 25.
