Seahawks activate Bruce Irvin, release WR Stephen Williams
Williams, who Seattle signed in the offseason, had an impressive training camp and came up with several big catches in the preseason, but had not made an impact during the regular season. Williams did not have a catch in Seattle's first four games, and perhaps most significantly, he did not play on specials teams, limiting his value as the team's fifth receiver.
The fact that Seahawks released Williams and not recently signed backup center Jason Spitz is probably a bad sign for Max Unger's hopes of returning from a triceps injury this week. If Unger were likely to play, the Seahawks likely wouldn't have bothered keeping a third center behind him and Lemuel Jeanpierre.
