Residents offer to buy speed camera in Eugene, Ore.
The Register-Guard reported that a couple years ago the city installed rapidly flashing pedestrian crossing lights near Edison Elementary School. But some residents says traffic been increasing, and speeding motorists are even more of a problem than before.
About 15 of them are willing to spend $40,000 for a camera to catch speeders on Agate Street.
The cameras rely on radar to detect motorists' speeds and then snap photos of the license plate. Such cameras are generally found in big cities. There are none in the Eugene-Springfield area.
