SEATTLE — The King County executive has ordered an inquest into the fatal shooting by Federal Way, Wash., police of a man at an apartment complex where four other people were fatally shot last April.
Executive Dow Constantine on Tuesday ordered the inquest into the shooting of Dennis Clark III at the recommendation of King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg.
Police who responded to the shootings at the Pinewood Village Apartments say they ordered the man to drop his shotgun but he did not. Police shot and wounded the man, causing him to drop the gun. Officers say the man fled and fell to the ground near one of two men shot earlier.
Officers say Clark reached for a gun nearby on the ground and police fired again, killing him.
Killed at the complex were Clark’s girlfriend, two men in the parking lot, and a resident who had come out to see what was happening, then retreated to his apartment.
