TACOMA -- A Washington state man sent to prison for killing a man in a 1999 car wreck has pleaded guilty in another vehicle-related death. This time an agreement between prosecutors and the defense team calls for an exceptional sentence of 27 years.
The News Tribune reported that James Southard Jr., 51, of Bonney Lake, pleaded guilty Tuesday to vehicular homicide in the Aug. 11 death of Gary Slick, 47. The victim was hit by a pickup as he walked in Bonney Lake.
Sentencing is set for Nov. 1.
In 2000, Southard pleaded guilty to felonies stemming from a string of drunken-driving related crashes in Puyallup that ended in the death of Shawn Fairbanks, 37. In that case, Southard was sentenced to 10 years.
