SHORELINE — Shorecrest’s Kate Hildahl broke a scoreless tie in the 70th minute and the Scots held on to deal Marysville Pilchuck its first league loss of the season. After creating a turnover in midfield, Shorecrest worked the ball to Meghan Wicken on the wing. Wicken made a run down the sideline and found Hildahl on a cutback pass. The senior midfielder then put a 10-yard shot into the side-netting.
The lone goal was enough as Scots goalkeeper Frida Swensen stymied the Tomahawks at every opportunity.
“Frida came up with some great saves,” said Scots head coach Mindy Dalziel. “She made a great foot save in the 75th minute and also had great clears on corners.”
Dalziel described the first half as being “all over the place. Marysville Pilchuck came out fast and aggressive … I think their forwards do a good job of keeping them in games and putting defenders under pressure.”
The Scots eventually worked their way into the match and created several dangerous opportunities in the second half, including hitting the post twice.
“We (eventually) got into our groove and knocked the ball around,” said Dalziel. “Our midfield did a good job of controlling the ball.”
The win keeps Shorecrest tied with Mountlake Terrace atop the Wesco 3A South standings, while Marysville Pilchuck remains in first place in the North.
