My dad used to say that politicians should only serve two terms, one in office and one in jail. That may sound a little harsh but we need to wake up. Both the Democrats and the Republicans are acting childish and show that they really only care about themselves. For one, while the government is shut down, they made sure that their pay continues. Now we are finding out that the poor federal workers who are whining on the news about survival will actually get all the back pay once the government shutdown is over. It is like a paid vacation to them while the private businesses that are affected by the shutdown will struggle to stay open and then continue to struggle to hopefully catch up.
The polls, if you can believe them, show 45 percent of the people blame the Republicans and 35 percent blame the Democrats. I can’t believe that 100 percent of us don’t blame both parties. What really needs to happen is to vote any incumbent who has been there 12 years or more out of office. Fill those positions with new people and if they prove to not be doing their job, vote them out. If they are doing what they promised when running for office then let them stay the 12 years, then be automatically removed. While in office they pay into Social Security. When they leave they just need to find a productive job in the private sector and wait until retirement to collect on their Social Security, just like the rest of us have to do. I don’t think that those in office carry the full burden of blame. We have to carry some of that blame ourselves for being too complacent and just too lazy to become involved in watching what our government is doing to us. It is not a difficult thing to do. We just go to the polls every election time and vote them out, install new people and watch them. The day of the professional politician needs to be over.
